Preferences
- On touch count MPEG frames: MPEG files added to the stream list which don't have a Lame header will be scanned for MPEG frame count. If Save ID3v2 SEFC is checked the value will be stored, and used next time you open the stream. In general you'll get faster loading of MPEG files. Note that MPEG frame count is also needed for editing.
- On touch init streams for BASS: When files are added to the stream list they will be automatically preloaded for BASS. It will take a little more time to add files, because Bass will read some extra information from the file, but they can be played instantenously. Loading speed also depends on the BASS_STREAM_PRESCAN flag.
- Count files before searching them: When using the quick search function the folder will be scanned to count the number of files in it so a progress can be displayed.
- Don't try to detect various artist compillations: By default MP4 Stream Editor will treat ' - ', ' / ' and ' : ' in cddb/feedb titles as a artist - title separator, use this function to display the original title.
- Grid lines: Show grid lines on lists.
- Disable splash screen: Don't show logo at startup.
- Save log automatically: Events will be loged to file. It's advised to check this option so you can check the log in case there was some failure, for example when the application crashes you can view the last event reported to the log.
- Log everything (switch developer mode on): Log debug info too and switch developer mode on.
- Gaplessly advance subsongs if follow each other: If enabled when advancing a subsong and the next one is the next track the cross fade setting will not be used play list will always advance gaplessly.
- When running with params: Select what happens with the files specified in the command line parameters.
- User frame to be shown w/ album info: Select which ID3v2 frame should be displayed as extra album info in the album info window.
- Shutdown mode: When play list playing reaches end and 'Shutdown after last item' is checkmarked shut down MP4 Stream Editor/system the selected way.
Display
- Separate Sample display and vis plugin swapping: Sample display and vis plugin changing is handled separatelly.
- Transparent inactive windows: Make inactive windows transparent.
- Theme: Select a theme. Theme files can be easily generated with a resource editor like 'XN Resource Editor' by editing/creating new res*.dll files in the MP4 Stream Editor program folder.
- Animated: Turn on/off 3D animation (rotation effect, zooming animation - turn it off for fast response).
- Static mode: Normally, without this flag, the whole audio file's sample data is in memory and the waveform display samples this buffer with 'Max. vertex count' amount. So without this flag it's possible to zoom-in and achieve sample precise display. With this flag on the audio file is sampled to max. 'Max. vertex count' samples and displayed with 'Max. vertex count' number of samples, this requires very low CPU and RAM (eg. with a 'Max. vertex count' value of 1 million 1 million samples are displayed and no more). When this flag is off 'Max. vertex count' is divided by 20 (with the lowest value of 100 000) and when zooming-in the displayed samples are re-sampled from the whole audio samples buffer resulting a sample precise display (that requires much more CPU and RAM usage).
- Sample's color: Select the sample dislpay sample color.
- Max. vertex count: Maximal line vertex count (sample will be down-sampled for this value). For a modern 3D GFX card set max. vertex count to 5 000 000 or more. If the sample display is slow reduce this value. An RTX 3080 can manage more than 8 000 000 vertexes. More vertexes result a more detailed display - it's possible to zoom in more.
- Max. sonogram triangle count: Maximal triangle count for the sonogram display (sample will be down-sampled for this value). For a modern 3D GFX card set max. vertex count to 8 000 000 or more. If the sample display is slow reduce this value. An RTX 3080 can manage more than 16 000 000 triangles. More triangles result a more detailed display - it's possible to zoom in more.
Encoders
- Locate...: Specifiy encoder .exe's path and file name. For example without Lame.exe you won't be able to encode MPEG streams, as to use the encode list the CD grabbing to MP3 or the MP3 Recording.
- Encoding priority Set to lower values for good responsiveness, or set it to higher values for faster encoding. Use with care, values above Normal may cause system instabilities or a non-responsive system.
- Preview length: When using the preview function for paste or cut, a this long slice will be played. This means if preview length is 6 seconds then in the preview you'll here the cut point in the 3rd second.
- Play Selection repeat: Repeat (loop) selection the specified times, when playing selection with the yellow play button in sample display view.
- Rewind: When playing selection, after reaching selection end, set playing position to the beginning. Else you can continue playing with the pause button.
- Use error correction: Turning off MPEG error correction will gain some speed and you still get basic correction when sync is lost.
- Repeat frames: When bad frame is detected the prevoius valid one will be duplicated to keep the streams length.
Audio
All 3 major audio output modes are supported by MP4 Stream Editor:
- Direct Sound: This is the most commonly used and supported. Drawback is long pre-buffering delay, for example if 'Pre-buffering' is set to 1000ms this means that when you click play or add/change a DSP effect the change will be heard after 1 seconds.
- ASIO: This is the most rarely used and supported. The advantage is nearly instantenous response for play/DSP etc.
- WASAPI: This is Microsoft's new audio interface introduced in Windows Vista, so requires at least Windows Vista. Recommended choice for Windows Vista and up.
- Device: Available sound devices for output. If you change these parameters audio playback will be reset and all playing streams will stop.
- Speaker configuration: Select your speaker configuration. When playing audio files that have different channel count, according to 'matrix mixing setup' audio files wil be up/down converted to this channel configuration.
Important to set properly. There's no advantage setting this higher then your speaker count. it will result only that multi channel audio file's all channels will not be played through your speakers.
- Matrix mixing profile: Specify how to mix channels for output for the specified speaker configuration. More about matrix mixing.
- 32 bit: Convert 8/16-bit sample data to 32-bit floating-point before passing it to DSP functions and output. This means that there is no degradation of quality as sample data passes through a chain of DSP and gives better sound quality.
- Hardware mixing: Only for Direct Sound. Select hardware or software mixing (not all drivers for example support 32 bit audio stream format).
- Sampling rate: Set device's mixing sampling rate for output. Select desired output frequency (higher values recommended). If the audio status reports failure reduce this value.
- Pre-buffering: Pre-buffering value in ms. Select desired pre-buffer value (values between 500-2000 are recommended). This affects DSP responsiveness. If you apply a DSP to a stream channel the sound data already in buffer will be played before the DSP will affect it. No affect on ASIO.
- Exclusive: Only for WASAPI. Take exclusive control of the selected device.
- Info: Information about the selected sound device and status (OK/error).
Misc
- External picture viewer: Select picture viewer for album cover art images in tags.
- Command line options: Lets you set extra arguments when starting the specified external picture viewer.
- External editor: Specify an program to use for 'Open in external' command.
- Filetype associations: First checkmark specifies whether to add 'Repair with MP4 Stream Editor' to the mp3 file type's context menu in Explorer.
Select file types to be associated with MP4 Stream Editor. You can edit the Description whith double clicking on it, Add filetypes, Remove, etc. Right mouse button click for more options.
- Allow multiple instances: Allow running more than one MP4 Stream Editor application at a time (not recommended).
- MP4 Stream Editor's priority:: Set MP4 Stream Editor's main process's priority class. Values below normal may cause pauses or delays.
Values above normal can make the system unstable or non-responsive. Use with care.
Internet
- Display news: Show 3delite's news on a web panel below the stream info panel on the main window.
- Check for newer version on program startup: Check for newer version of MP4 Stream Editor on internet on program startup. Requires internet connection.
- Query Audio CD titles: Query cddb/freedb server for inserted Audio CDs (CDDAs) and diplay artist, title, album information automatically.
- Get CDDB server list: Query cddb/freedb server list when connected to a cddb/freedb server (you'll find the list in the log if successfull).
- Time-out: Send command-response value (lower latency will speedup connection, higher value for slow connections).
- Proxy: Use proxy server for internet connections.
Saving
- ID3v2 SEFC - Save frame count: Store MPEG frame count in ID3v2 tag. When loading an MPEG file for editing this value is needed so it's a good idea to store it.
- ID3v2 SEBR - Save bit rate: When possible store stream's bit rate in stream's ID3v2 tag.
- ID3v2 TLEN - Save playtime: Store the play time value. Very useful as many MP3 related pograms use this information.
- ID3v2 PCNT - Save playcount: Count how many times the stream has been started playing by the user.
- ID3v2 SEAC - Save album colors: Store album info window set text colors in stream's ID3v2 tag.
- Automatically convert .cue files into MP4 Stream Editor subsong system: When .CUE file is found beside the stream or has Helium ID3v2 Subtracks convert them to MP4 Stream Editor subsong system.
- Save playlist on exit: Save the content of the stream list and status when exiting the application, and set default play list format for automatic saving of the stream list.
- Temp path: Select folder for storing temporary files. If not set default temp folder is used (\Windows\Temp\).
- Favourite Folders: These folders will be searched for streams and music modules when using the quick and advanced searching for audio files.
- Collect: If checked then every time you open a file, it's path will be added to the list automatically.
- +: Manually add a folder to the list. Only real folders can be added like C:\MP3. You can not add virtual folders like My Computer!
- -: Remove selected folder from the list.
- Clear: Clear the list completly.
OK will save the setings or Apply it without saving.
Note: If you mess up something, delete the MP4 Stream Editor.ini file from the installation folder. This will erase all your settings of course and default values will be used next time you start the application.
